On March 7th, the BAUDL held the March Madness tournament at Oakland High. The competition was as fresh as ever with debaters knowing that this was one of their last chances to prove themselves before City Championships. Everyone put their best foot forward, but one team in particular defended their fort the hardest. After an unbelievable close finals round, Street Academy‘s Tevah El Ehmet and Jessica Winseymanaged to pull out on top and hold on to their position as first place champions! Congrats Tevah and Jessica on an amazing winning streak unlike anything the BAUDL has seen before!
Tevah El Ehmet, who already made an incredible showing by winning every tournament he has attended thus far, was also this tournament’s Top Speaker. This being Tevah’s second tournament ever, he really proves that there is no limit to how much you can excel in debate, no matter how new you are to the game.
Many new faces showed up to play this Saturday in the Novice Division. One dynamic duo managed to go undefeated! Congratulations to Briana Martinez and Aman Williams from Cal Prep for scoring the Novice Division Championship!
As a whole, some schools shone the brightest. Cal Prep came in at a close second, and took home the beautiful Sweepstakes Runner-Up trophy. The First Place Sweepstakes award went to Skyline for having the strongest showing and performance.
Finally, the debaters passed off the BAUDL Spirit Award to the next worthy candidate. Skyline got to choose who they would pass on the Spirit Award to. The award went to Oakland High for their display of dedication and care for not just debate, but other debaters.
